We’re dancing around last weekend’s event’s a tad. From one event to the other with a whole lack of rhythm or reason. Probably because we’re all still super stoked at how the whole 9’ & Single Art Music and Log Fest went and are just letting bits bubble to the forefront of consciousness and banging them out. So let us tell you all about Saturday night. The Second Annual Shapers Forum. It’s our twisted take on a talk back show with a live audience and no camera. The glue holding it all together was Monty ‘The Duke’, although this year we were honored by a well known authority on all things surf, Phil Jarrett. One the couches was a stacked … View More
Friday morning just past, we put the shout out for people to drag their; old & grouse, new and beut and pretty much what ever took their fancy when it came to favourite, wave riding machines to the grassy knoll above Tugu Beach Canggu. We weren’t disappointed either they flocked and filled the front yard of Ibu Made’s little Warung there on the headland. We had an embarrassment of surfers, shapers and inquisitive. All mixing it up and pouring the tar like black Bali coffee down their throats. Kia Ellis-Flint, who set the record for most different boards surfed at the Inaugural Bali Fish Fry last year, wasn’t about to let his title slip to upstart expat, Monroe. Hitting the … View More
There was quite the uproar out in the rice fields of Canggu Sunday night. From early evening through to the wee hours of the morn. Lights blazing bright, bands belting it out and four hundred odd people bouncing about at the Deus Temple of Enthusiasm. Under the rather obvious mantle of “All Wrapped Up”, this party was the final puzzle piece in the Deus 9’ & Single Art, Music and Log Fest for 2013. We’re real sorry we’re a little late in getting this out, Monday was a day that went through to the keeper. We slept late and lazed about nursing hangovers, aching muscles and a whole lot of sleep catch-ups. Whew it was a big weekend, damn we … View More
If you hadn’t heard, Deus ex Machina Indonesia is holding it’s 3rd annual “The Deus 9’ & Single Log Fest.” Nine foot”, is the reference to a minimum length of board and “Single” the number of, allowed fins. But you all knew that already. Come to the Righthander in Canggu to feast your eyes, for it’s those magnificent men (and women) on their wave riding machines. It’s a dead set bet that we’re gonna get Canggu a’ smokin’. We’ve an international line up of name brand loggers, people like; Harrison Roach, Jared Mell, Thomas Bexon, Matt Chojanocki, Dane Peterson, Kassia Meador, and a whole lot more… We’ll have everything ready for a 7am start. Set yourself up with some shade and … View More
Last week the revving engine of a Deus Custom SR 400 was heard in the land of the rising sun for the first time. Two of us made the journey from the Temple to Tokyo for what turned out to be an epic week of socializing, setting up shop and sashimi. First on the detailed schedule (that only the Japanese could coordinate) was the pop up shop at Biotop. We turned a vacant area of their store into a miniature Temple of Enthusiasm, with our own art and photography on the walls. The shop was complete with bike, surfboards and the apparel that we all love to wear. Over a hundred and fifty people showed up for the reception, all … View More
The last of the Temple rats have skulked back into Bali. Sheepish grins seem to be permanent fixtures on the younger two. And so it should be, this was their first trip to Australia and what a trip. Not your normal garden variety by any stretch of the imagination. Two young punks armed with cameras and wile arrive in Sydney. Straight away red carpet was extended to a couple of big events at Deus HQ in Camperdown and then bang, they’d packed up their swags and were off following a murder of surfers about. Gone bush as they say, the posse meandered its way up the east coast of Australia. From Sydney, north to Noosa. Meeting only the coolest cats and capturing … View More
This would be the last installment of the ‘North to Noosa’ video vignettes. Big props to young David ‘Pretty Boy’ Schaap for shooting, editing and creating this series . You have a bright future kid!
Last Friday in Noosa, we saw the sixth installment of the Joel Tudor, Duct Tape Invitational, presented by Vans. Sixteen of the best log riders from across the world came together to slide and jive through a day of waves. First Point Noosa hadn’t seen such perfect conditions for longboarding all year. Joel Tudor, mentor of every surfer involved and brainchild of the occasion, took the crowd through the criteria from the commentators box. * “Boards must be over nine feet long. They must be single fin, with no leash or leash plug. Boards must weigh more than twelve pounds. Surfers are expected to surf as though they are the love child of David Nuuhiwa and Nat Young. Gentlemen’s rules, … View More
The fun has not stopped… We are just finding it difficult getting content up between surfing and shooting perfect waves and extra curricular activities in the evenings… One of the big high lights of the week was ‘The Vans Joel Tudor Duct Tape Invitational’! Not just because our boy Harry Roach won, but because it was a rad event. Thanks to Joel and the rest of the crew for putting it on! Enjoy this little clip!
