Grins,Twins, and Hot August Nights

Look what the tide dragged in, one Mr. Jeff McCallum. After getting his fair share of waves during the first major swell of the season, Jeff went on the hunt. He was looking for Deus, curious to emerge himself in this Narnia type spot settled amongst the paddy fields in Canggu. And,we’re lucky he did. Jeff hails from the San Diego area where he shapes surfboards under his own label “McCallum”, hence one of his interests in finding “The Temple”. It just so happened that we had two blanks laying around with his name on them, well… now they do. When new shapers come to Deus there is always a bit of a buzz rolling around “The Temple”, a) … View More

The Greaser

Matt Chojnacki aka “The Greaser” aka “Chono” and if our a fan of Instagram like we know you all are, “The Wax Head”, is one hell of a multileveled good guy… Fact. Over the past few weeks we’ve seen of fare share of people who stop at “the Temple” for a beer, coffee, lunch, game of stick, bit of a walk around and then off. And then there was Matt Chojnacki. He flew over with Elis and Noodles for a bit of those swells that were on the go, and bit of R&R. He showed up at “The Temple” with Salsa and the rest of the crew and basically took one look at what was going on at the playground … View More

Down Time is Fun Time

All swells have a bit of a shelf life. Could be a week, could be a day. This last swell that ripped though Bali lasted about a three days, and brought us more pro’s than a Las Vegas trade show in the late 90’s, any way I’m off subject. So the crew got their fare share of the swell. But what to do when it’s gone? Sit around being derelicts? Well you could and we have. But over here at “The Temple” we like to make the most of our down time. Not only do we re-plant our roots back into our local spots we surf at daily ‘The Goo’. We also like to get into the ‘Shaping Bay’ or … View More

Swells Up

We last left you with the talk of a looming swell and Salsa sending smoke signals on a headland to his mates who live by the credo, “Have swell? Will travel”. Lets just say, they all arrived on the island at the same time. With little time to get settled and say g’day the boys were off to slash and turn every bit of the underwater dance party the ocean was throwing at them. So to recap, the crew is now Salsa, Elis, ‘The Greaser’ Matt Chojnacki, and brining up the rear, but in no way considered the old timer of the bunch, Nathan ‘Noodles’ Webster. Noodles delivers the good’s, his forehand carves are as wicked as a punch from … View More

Cuddles X Deus

Just got this clip sent over from Matt ‘Cuddles’ Cuddihy. Matt and film maker Andrew Gough nailed this little clip in one afternoon. We done legends!

Smokey Joe

We here a Deus love building bikes, but we really dig building a bike for one of the boys. One they can load up and pillage the island’s on. And that’s what we did for Ellis Ericson. Now a year ago when Ellis first got to the island he picked up this cruisy little clunker of a 76 CB100. Nothing flash, just something to get him around town and to the surf. A bike one sees on the street all the time, but would never notice as it rolled by- until now. Ellis always new he was going to do something with his bike but was never quite sure how to go about it, well, we do. Ellis left us … View More

Maxi’s CB

Remember your first motorbike? How old were you, 14 or so? Maxi’s first foray into the world of powered two wheel rides was probably not that different than most. The teenager growing up in Bali had been given an old CB125 for Christmas by his dad. It was up to him to take it to the next level. Unlike most kids, Maxi was growing up as part of the Deus family with a dirty big workshop, called a Bengkel in Indonesian, not to mention a number of highly skilled individuals who operated the facility. So onto the husk he put a cacophony of things found, begged, borrowed and no need to elaborate…I think you get the picture. Once a year … View More

Linus

They’re here, fresh from the States, the brand spanking new range of  Linus bikes have touched down at the Temple. Here at Deus we like  building our custom motorcycles, and have been known to put together  a few bicycles in our spare time too. Back in the colonial days of  the 30’s, the Dutch shipped over bicycles which are still used by  locals today. When you see an old rice farmer pedaling in between  the paddies, chances are that vintage bike is older than the rider. After opening our new store at Venice Beach, we stumbled across the  Linus store. Inspired by French designs from the 50’s, these vintage- style bicycles reminded us of what we aspire to back … View More

Tubes of Salsa

Well, well, swell… It’s the season of the switch. The trade winds have turned on. The wet season has came to an end. More spilt beer has hit the ground than raindrops in our neck of the paddies. Now is the time of the year when the swells start to pump all over the island. Last week was good for us over at “The Temple” we’ve left no corner unturned. So the obvious answer is to grab the gear and get some grinding barrels with ol’ mate Salsa. We’ve put together a collage from last weeks swell of Salsa’s traveling green room time for you to drool over. Who knows if you look long enough you, may feel the spit… Being the longhaired test pilot that he is, Salsa … View More

Opening Night of Cluster Fuck

Once again Deus gallery were proud to see artists receive such a warm and welcoming opening night here at the Temple. Sandow Birk and Elyse Pignolet humbly enjoyed sharing their ideas on the Motorbike world of Bali, a subject that is as complicated as it is dangerous. Rustic urbanization on two wheels, a daily part of life for anyone that has ever been to Bali, let alone lived here. Everyone had various experiences to draw from with most as keen as mustard to have the chance to chat to the embracing couple from LA . It’s no wonder that the night was filled with miles and miles of smiles & luxurious laughter. Petrol driven parochial meets modern mayhem. The conversation … View More
