Dirt Road Diary -Final Blog Entry #4

Our travels were slowly starting to get to us, sore muscles and sunburn were common topics of conversation at the breakfast table. We managed to fight the urge and didn’t hit the road at first light, but instead relaxed in the village until about lunch time. Once everyone was back around the table, a quick look up at the tree-tops showed that the wind was pretty much the same as when we first arrived, southerly and strong. After some debating and some calls around the island, it was decided that the best bet was to take a trip back to the little bay we had found previously. We retraced our dusty tire tracks back along the ridge, still taken back … View More

Dirt Road Diary – Blog Entry #3

The silence of the night was broken just prior to dawn with the sounding of cockerels from every coop in the village… Natures alarm clock was all the encouragement we needed to stretch and amble the 4 feet from our beds to the door, only to feel that southerly wind blowing again. To our disappointment it seemed like it had set it’s course and wasn’t going anywhere soon, which lowered group morale due the to fact that most of the waves we were searching out didn’t really hold up well with a southerly. The obligatory batch of morning instant coffee was ordered and our troupe made basic conversation between each other as the caffeine did its job and glassy eyes … View More

Dirt Road Diary – Blog Entry #2

Before departing from our day time location, we were given directions, accompanied by a map drawn in the sand with a stick… To which lead a short cut that would cut 45 minutes off our planned night time expedition. It’s safe to say that one of two things happened; we either did not follow the directions, which is doubtful, or were given a course that sent on a deliberately difficult mission… A mission that slowly unfolded into a night that none of our little group’s members will forget for quite some time. Life is about choices. So when the tarmac road presented us with a choice to continue along its dark smooth surface, or to abandon it for what can … View More

Dirt Road Diary – Blog Entry #1

Pulling away from the temple in the middle of the night, with nothing but darkness and a direction ahead of us. A posse of fossil fueled fangers made a B-line for the east coast, with only the port acting as a well earned break in the tarmac. The swell rocked our weathered ferry as it chugged across some of the strongest currents in the world. Waking relief coming from the protected waters of our destination’s harbor as our over night crossing came to an end. We had planned for a first light arrival, but the tides were with us and it landed our group on dry land with a couple hours until the sun broke across the equator. Setting off … View More

Jimmy James’ on Slidetober Fest

After his return from a filming expedition to an outer island, Jimmy James sat at his computer and sliced together some moving images from the Deus Slidertober Fest event that he had captured a week prior. Heres the edit, and it’s the last look at the Slidetober event…until next year of course! Enjoy!

‘Deeds Not Words’

Amidst the calmly collected chaos that was the Deus Slidetober Fest event, an art exhibition opened, an art exhibition that had been in the works for pretty much all of the past year. Stevie Gee, or as we call him ‘Sleazy G’ has been a collaborating artist with Deus over the past 365 days or so, using that crazy British brain of his to conger up and create scenes and characters that just slip’s effortlessly into the Deus vibe. His first show on Bali’s soil, entitled ‘Deed’s not Words’ is a collection of all the work he has created for Deus, along with a plethora of pieces that he made right here in Bali in the Temple’s ‘in-resident’ artist studio … View More

‘Slidetober’ Photo Booth Session

An entire day of contesting surf, washed down with a ‘Storm’ of beers and rolling seamlessly into the evening entertainment, could only lead to an uncouth ‘Photobooth’ shoot right here in ‘The Temple’ studio. ‘Slidetober’ was almost over and lined up ready to be shot were the drunk and disorderly, sun stroked and soon to be poked, fugly and the cuddly (we’re talking about the men here) and those who just love being flashed in the face, again and again. The proof is in the pudding and here it is…. a ‘lava cake’ of frolicking fun!

‘Slidetober’ Art Music & Celebration

When beachside was all over, bar the shouting, a deserved afternoon siesta seemed to be well in order! People left, homeward bound. Washed their sandy feet and had a little lay down. The alarm went off all to soon. So shower they did, changed their clothes and headed back to the Temple for the remaining facets of the unpolished gem that was… The Deus Slidetober Surf, Music & Art Fest. The results were in, MC’s Monty and Tyler manned the mics and after a raffle which saw one lucky winner walk away with a Deus Custom Single fin, the awards were handed out. In fourth place was Tyler Warren, third was taken out by Ellis Ericson, new Deus team rider … View More

‘Slidetober’ Surf Contest

Morning mist & hazy minds met up at the temple and moved in military fashion to set the stage.  Dawn broke to the beach bustling with preparatory movement, in no time at all the two story judging booths and tent areas were up.  Banners lined the boardwalk, transforming the area into an oversized art gallery. The light offshore wind slowly pushed away the fog to reveal… a lot of swell and a very low tide. The only waves braking at this early hour were way, way out. What we call the ‘Bombie’. The leader board arrived riding a pulse of early morning spectators and a truck laden with Deus Custom sliders of all shapes and sizes. Rides from 4’11” to … View More

Hangin’ Gee Style

Stevie Gee’s made quite an impression on us these past few days. His unique artwork, as mad as a bag of spiders, gives us a glimpse below the surface of what makes this man tick. The clock is ticking now as we count down to his exhibition. Here at the Temple we saw the preparation unfold before a curtain literally drops on his Deus gallery debut. Don’t worry we will reveal all on the evening of our ‘Slidetober Surf Music and Art fest’. Everyone loves a preview, a behind the scenes look at what transpires and unfolds. A sneaky peek so to speak. So here’s all you’re getting until the man himself…Stevie Gee… Unveils what lurks behind the theatrically blackened entrance … View More
